OK, I know I said I was going to wait to get a new dog. But I couldn't resist looking around on adopt-a-pet.com, and I found Bianca:
She's a year-old Pomeranian mix, but we have no idea what she's mixed with. :-P When her ears are up and she's trotting around, she almost looks like a miniature coyote/wolf dog. She has bonded amazingly well with Erik and me -- she is already very much a part of the family. It's funny, because we're seeing a lot of the same behavior in her that we did in Taffy, which leads me to believe those were actually Pom characteristics and not Papillon as we thought. Bianca's story is sad (and infuriating). Apparently she was picked up by the animal control truck because she was out on the streets, but she had tags. The shelter called her owner, who refused to pick her up because she'd gotten out after a neighbor's dog had dug a hole under the fence adjoining their properties, and she thought the neighbor should pay the impound fees. Can you imagine what sort of heartless bitch it would take to leave a pet in the shelter over a few hundred measly bucks? Jeez, lady, pay the impound fees and then take your neighbor to small-claims court to get it back!
At least the story has a happy ending, because Erik and I love Bianca to death already, and anyone who knows us knows how much we spoil our doggies. :-)
Also, totally off-topic but I just had to share: half and half of Schoenauer apple schnapps and Blackthorn dry cider over rocks is AWESOME.

Date: 2009-07-07 06:09 am (UTC)What a horrid person to pull that kind of stunt - Bianca is much better off with you and Erik. She could not have come to a better, more loving home. :)
I'm very happy for you, my dear GA - I hope you three have many wonderful years together!

Honestly, that puppy smile she has in that picture is priceless!
(and I will have to try your drink recommendation as that does sound mighty tasty)

Date: 2009-07-12 04:47 am (UTC)Seriously that person IS heartless for leaving her there just because she doesn't want to pay. If our cats got out, or any other companion animal for that matter, we'd(my family) do anything to get our companions back. They are apart of our family.
