Weekend update
Mar. 23rd, 2008 11:53 amMan, it's way too hot here for the end of March. Thank you, global warming.
Otherwise, great weekend so far. The highlights:
Got carded at the grocery store on Friday. Yay! Those of you in your 20s are probably thinking, 'So what?' but believe me, getting asked for your ID when you're 43 is a life-affirming experience.
Later that night, exchange between Joy and Erik:
Joy: I'm glad we're going to bed kind of early tonight, since I have to get up in the morning and shoot those kids at the Easter egg hunt.
Erik: [Blank stare] [Pause] Oh, with a camera.
Joy: Well, what the hell else did you think?
Erik: Just wanted to check, since it's you....
Saturday night at the Bahooka booze-fest:
One end of the table: So there I was, trapped in a phone booth, getting harassed by a bull dyke....
Other end of the table: Oh, come on, every guy has tried it at least once.... (you kids figure that one out for yourselves)
A little bit later, after the gift exchange (it was Greg's and Harold's b-days last week)
Greg: The people on the back of that book are really short!
Joy: They're children!!
It's sad, but even though Greg probably weighs almost three times what I do, I can drink him under the table.
Later that night, when we took the after-party over to my house:
Random friend of a friend who showed up around midnight (in reference to a conversation trying to figure out if we'd bumped into each other at a previous party): Oh, no, I'd remember meeting you, because you're a very beautiful woman.
Seriously, he said that. Wish I'd gotten it on tape. :-P
Today should be pretty mellow, though. The Suzinator is coming over for dinner and is promising something decadent and chocolate for dessert. Mmm....
Easter is just not that big a deal around my house. When I was a kid we had the big family get-togethers, but this year I'm just settling for phone calls to the parental units. It's probably more that I've gotten lazy in my old age, but I'm using the price of gas as an excuse not to go anywhere. ;-)
