Mac musings
Jan. 21st, 2008 06:15 pmSo I was all fired up to get myself a new computer. I've had this one for quite some time, it's a little slow, and I figured it was time to get myself something new and shiny. But we were at Best Buy over the weekend, and I took a closer look at the LCD screens they have on the new iMacs, and...
...I just don't like them. True, they're still worlds better than the dreadful screen I have on my PC at work (bleh), but I still don't think the screen resolution was as good as it is on my trusty old eMac, especially when it comes to rendering fonts. I tend to be very picky about how fonts look on-screen, probably because I had to do a lot of typesetting in one of my previous jobs and obsessiveness over my fonts has just stuck with me.
After mulling it over for a bit, I've decided to just upgrade this machine (beef up the RAM, get a new combo drive to replace the one that croaked) and see how that works. I know that one day I'll have to buy a new Mac, but I think I'm going to hang on to this one for a while longer. Except for the DVD-ROM dying, this eMac has been dependable and fabulous and one of my best friends. I would have been sad to let it go anyway.
Nothing earth-shattering, but I've got my new memory on order and the combo drive as well, so I'm looking forward to making this baby hum. :-)
