Strange coincidences
May. 20th, 2007 10:10 amOK, so we went to see Spiderman 3 yesterday (so I'm behind the curve. I cared more about seeing 28 Weeks Later, frankly). Anyway, since I had fairly low expectations, I wound up enjoying myself. It was a little too busy -- I think one of the subplots could have been scrapped to make it a little less frenetic -- but whatever. Besides, James Franco with half his face scarred up? Hawt. Take that, Gerry Butler! (Actually, I love GB in everything EXCEPT Phantom, so don't take this as full-on Gerry hate, because it isn't.)
Afterward we decided we wanted Italian food but were at a loss because our favorite little place in La Verne (which is where the movie theater is located) has been on indefinite hiatus. So we decided to just head east on Foothill Blvd. and see what we could come up with. The next town over is Claremont, which is actually where I was born, and I knew there were some restaurants along there. Lo and behold, we come across a Buca di Beppo, and there was much rejoicing. We actually got in extremely quickly, considering it was 7:30 on a Saturday night (most Bucas I've been to are always overrun, but I guess Claremont is pretty sleepy compared to Pasadena or Universal City or even Anaheim). So anyway, we're sitting at the table, and have just gotten our wine and bread, when somebody walks over and stands next to our table and says, "Hi!" It was Chris from my Nano writers' group, of all people! I had no idea what he'd be doing in that neck of the woods (he lives in Glendale, I believe), but it turned out he'd spent the day at Disneyland with some friends who lived in Claremont (he went to college in Claremont, too), and they ended up at Buca. So we chatted a little bit, mostly on the whole "it's a small world" riff, and then he went back to his table, and we went back to our wine. But really, what are the chances?
This little meeting also served to remind me that our next writers' group meeting is two weeks away, and I haven't met any of my goals yet. Oops.
